100 Things
100 things about me!
1. I grew up on a waterfront property, in a small town, on the West Coast of British Columbia.
2. We were on a killer whale migration route, and got to watch them from our porch.
3. I can’t stand horror movies. I’m much to big of a scardey-cat.
4. Snakes freak me out more than anything else in the world.
5. I can wiggle my ears, separately.
6. I went to boarding school from when I was 12 until I graduated at 17.
7. It wasn’t all midnight feasts like I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it.
8. My dad’s a dentist, so I’ve never been scared; although I’ve never been to anyone but him.
9. I got glasses at the age of 7. I can’t function without them. Anything past one foot infront of me is fuzzy.
10. I love Ikea furniture. Even if I was uber-rich, I’d still buy furniture there.
11. I have a BFA in theatre, I specialized in Stage Management.
12. My dad read me The Hobbit when I was 4. I read it by myself when I was 5, read Lord of the Rings when I was 10. I re-read them just about every year.
13. I couldn’t get through The Silmarillion until I was 13.
14. I love to read.
15. I wish I could read in moving vehicles, but it makes me carsick. The same goes for knitting too, sadly.
16. I love Post-its, Sharpies, pens, pencils. I can browse in a stationery store for hours.
17. I’ve been knitting since the summer of 2003, when I couldn’t get a job. I took up knitting to make me feel less guilty about lounging around all summer.
18. I’ve worked in 3 bookstores in my life, and I loved it. And not just for the book discount!
19. I worked as an usher once, and in 2005 I worked a Cher concert, with The Village People as the opening band.
20. I have a secret desire to see Tom Jones in concert.
21. I rarely knit for people other than me, as it takes me so long.
22. I played field hockey in high school. Position: goalie.
23. I’m 5′3″, and it is very hard to find pants that don’t drag on the ground.
24. I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings movies.
25. I saw The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers at pre-screenings. I won the tickets in a draw that also included entry into a trivia contest. I came second the first year, and tied for first the second year. The third year my name wasn’t drawn at all.
26. I haven’t watched the Oscars since The Return of the King won everything, the moment is too perfect to spoil.
27. I had rehearsal that night, so I have that Oscar broadcast on tape still.
28. I skipped grade 7. So I finished grade 6, then in September I was in grade 8 at boarding school.
29. I love Mac computers.
30. My iPod is old and fat because I bought it in 2005.
31. I learned to ski when I was 5, and hated it. When we went back the next year I was a skiing maniac.
32. One of the first times skiing with my parents, and not a class, I saw a mogul hill and said ‘ooh! jumps!’ before barreling straight down the hill.
33. I lost my love of skiing when I was in a school race and wiped out in a big way.
34. I didn’t break anything, but I was stunned and unmoving, which prompted the commentator to tell everyone to stop as there was a ‘non-moving body on the slope’. I sat up and waved at that.
35. The only bone I have ever broken is my tailbone, and I didn’t realise until the pain went away. I thought it was a bad bruise.
36. I have been to Disneyland twice: once when I was 4 with my parents, once when I was 13 with the school band.
37. My parents have a picture of me in Disneyland, age 4, reading a book while the parade goes by.
38. I love to drink skim milk, because it tastes better than other milk.
39. I can’t stand pop.
40. I like music, but couldn’t tell you a favourite band, genre, or song. I just like music. Whatever music is on.
41. I am the first and only member of my family to be born in Canada.
42. I have been a Canadian citizen for longer than my dad, I was at his citizenship ceremony thing when I was a baby.
43. All my relatives (apart from mum and dad) live in England.
44. I come from a very small family, I am an only child, and only have 2 first cousins.
45. I went out to pick plums from our plum tree when I was about 10, and found a bear in it.
46. ‘They’ tell you not to run from a bear, but I did. It was already moving away though.
47. I grew up in a place where an earthquake could happen at any time. I periodically forget that I have moved, and wonder why my work does fire drills, but not earthquake drills.
48. I have moved from Canada’s most temperate city to somewhere where it actually snows in winter. ‘Winter’ meaning October-April, with a chance of snow in the other months too.
49. I have never smoked. Anything.
50. I love raw pastry and raw cookie dough.
51. When I started university, it was to be a veterinarian. After first year, I decided to do something I actually liked.
52. I’m almost always cold, and I don’t know why.
53. I hate zucchini, but love broccoli, peppers, and carrots.
54. I hated cooking and baking until I moved out on my own.
55. When I was young, I thought the hot tap was boiling water, so I used it to make Jello when I decided I wanted to make food. My parents never let me forget the gritty Jello episode.
56. I wanted to be Robin Hood when I was little. I even took archery lessons.
57. I still enjoy a good Robin Hood story.
58. The last essay I ever wrote in university was about The Lord of the Rings. I wrote it in 2 evenings.
59. Red Dwarf is my favourite BritCom of all time, closely followed by Blackadder.
60. I can play the piano, clarinet, and French horn.
61. I went to a Catholic elementary school, even though my parents are religious, and was never baptised. I got funny looks from the other kids and the nuns.
62. Until university, I always had to wear a uniform at school.
63. I wore a tie to school every day from when I was 5 until I was 9, when the school changed the uniform.
64. I finished university in 4.5 years, because I changed my major.
65. I lived with my parents for all of university. We got along fine, maybe because I didn’t live with them during high school.
66. My first word was ‘duck’.
67. I want to live in England for at least some time in my life.
68. I have dual citizenship, Canadian and British.
69. I can be a bit of a neat freak.
70. Chatting on MSN tends to bore me quickly.
71. I also don’t like talking to most people on the phone. I could never be a telemarketer.
72. I love sweets, not a big fan of salty stuff.
73. I once gave up chocolate for 40 days because my roommate at the time bet me I couldn’t.
74. In high school, I once ate a whole container of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey in one sitting. I was sitting outside eating on a summer day, and didn’t notice until it was all gone.
75. Chunkey Monkey is still my favourite Ben & Jerry’s.
76. I’ve gained about 10-15 pounds since high school, and think I look healthy now.
77. I was born April 2nd.
78. My mum’s birthday is April 3rd.
79. I wish I got more chances to wear fancy dresses.
80. I have ice cream van radar, I always can hear it before anyone else.
81. I was once bitten on the wrist by a dog. It was a teacher’s dog.
82. I like to re-read books.
83. This means I keep most books I buy, and am always in danger of running out of shelf space.
84. I can swim, but I can’t do a proper head-first dive.
85. I started selling things I’d made at craft fairs when I was 5.
86. I try to keep my books in pristine condition.
87. I like to see the wear and tear on magazines I use a lot. I write all over my knitting mags.
88. On my field hockey team in high school we had a set of twins. One was our back-up goalie. When we were both in our gear, apparently we passed as twins. I heard two members of another team talking once, and they thought we had triplets on our team.
89. I drive a 1992 Mazda.
90. My parents bought it new when I was 8.
91. My first pet was a guinea pig named Woody.
92. I used to live in a small community on the coast, on the mainland of BC. Because of all the inlets, we still needed to take a ferry to get anywhere that wasn’t our town.
93. I take great delight in the fact that I knew of Hugh Laurie before he was House.
94. My parents and I went to “SARSstock”, the big bring-tourists-back-to-Toronto concert.
95. I worked in Banff, Alberta in 3 separate stints between 2004 and 2006.
96. I lived there for more than a year if you add them all up.
97. I was once late for work because there was an elk on the path.
98. I’m a dog person, but I still really like cats.
99. I like pets that will cuddle with you.
