It was fun! It was fun to be part of a moving spectacle. Lots of great costumes on our end, lots of funny looks on the general public's end. I'm still wondering what it says about my sense of style that every single piece of my outfit came from my wardrobe - no thrift shopping needed.
I've never done one of the full moon rides, it sound fun though!

How was it? I was working yesterday (and I'm still breaking in my new saddle...still butt-sore!) and couldn't go :)
I think we're considering the Full Moon Ride on the 2nd, but it will depend on whether or not we get our saddles broken in & stuff...

Maybe what makes it seem "alternative" is the handcrafted/handmade component...?

Any time someone deviates from the commercial, it seems to be labelled alternative and "hippy-ish" .... like, shopping at a farmer's market, knitting your own socks, growing your own lettuce, or spinning your own wool. Yep, these activities are all done by certified, Grade A "hippies" and not by "regular" people with full-time jobs (drip of sarcasm).

You didn't order your wedding from a catalogue... it was made by hand...and maybe ...sadly...that's alternative to the norm of a pre-packaged Twinkie lifestyle.

I would say (after having read your blog for quite awhile now) that you didn't necessarily have an "alternative" wedding, but it wasn't stodgily traditional either. You're from a theatre background, and thus used creativity and themes to "stage" your wedding. Another friend of mine from a theatre background did something similar...instead of books and such, he and his wife were married on the stage at Ft. Calgary. Ranks right up there with my brother's wedding - ceremony was in the Legislative Assembly building for the Northwest Territories, and the reception was a ballroom at the Department of National Defence. He's not in the military; it's just where they could get a really nice reception room :)

Most weddings I've been to have had very sparse themes (ie: Butterflies in the decorations, jellybeans on the tables, etc) or no theme whatsoever other than "this is our big day and you better enjoy it because we paid a lot of money for this hall..." You kinda took the fun in your wedding and dialed it up to 11 from the looks of it. If that's "alternative", it works for me. You enjoy your day, and Grandpa makes it through the ceremony without any embarassment.

(we've threatened our in-laws with all sorts of possible "alternative" weddings - for when we finally get around to it. The most spectacular response was when we mused about having a friend of ours dress up as Elvis to officiate - you wouldn't know if you'd get "young, studly Elvis" or "Dead, fat, bloated-on-a-toilet Zombie Elvis". We were told point-blank that a family member who was a retired minister would perform the ceremony, and there was NO WAY that we would be embarassing the family in such a way. The clincher? My mother-in-law, the preacher's kid, gently telling us that if it meant THAT much to us, she'd make a gold lame flight suit for her Dad....) ;)

Lovely bike! We may be headed down to BikeBike tomorrow to do a test drive, as a couple of bikes we wanted to look at apparently just got in. Hopefully the weather stays nice this weekend! :)

We were in Costa Rica for 3 weeks, at the sloth place for 2 of those weeks. I seriously did not want to leave! I could definitely live there (CR in general, not just the sloth sanctuary!) I loved our whole trip, but especially all those fuzzy little guys. Miss their furry faces.

Holy hell! I don't think I've spent enough time ogling sloth pictures thus far in my life! Cute, cute, cute. This sounds like a fantastic honeymoon experience AND I'm now itching to hop a plane to costa rica and get me some sloth love. How long were you there for?
